SMOTHERMAN |
Kodi T. Smotherman, 24, of 178 Market St., Lakeview, was cited for reckless operation, failure to control, driving under suspension, speed and no seat belt by deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office related to a previously reported high-speed chase and crash early Tuesday morning.
He is currently incarcerated in the Logan County Jail on a felony count of resisting arrest, along with a probation violation.
Mr. Smotherman had been transported by MedFlight helicopter from the crash scene on Township Road 56 to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of injuries.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department was on patrol in the 1000 block of south Main Street and observed the suspect’s northbound car travel across the center line and hit a safety cone in a construction zone.
The officer attempted to stop the motorist, but he sped off northbound to Water Avenue where he turned westbound. Speeds were as high as 72 mph on Water as the motorist ran stop signs at Detroit Street and Plumvalley Street, as previously reported.
The pursuit continued in the city, and speeds reached more than 108 mph on Troy with the fleeing motorist pulling away from officers. Leaving the city limits, the motorist traveled north on T.R. 56, where he lost control of the car. His vehicle spun around and traveled off the east side of the road and hit a mailbox and several trees before flipping several times.
