Carl Emory “Deke” Culp, 95, of Rushsylvania passed away at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2020, in the Monarch Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Marysville.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1924, the son of the late John Otto and Lucretia (McAdams) Culp.
On Aug. 18, 1945, he married the former Helen Marie Pugh and she survives in Rushsylvania.
To this union was born, Carol Jo, James David (Luann), Ronald Alan (Lorre), and Luanne. They have nine grandchildren: Lisa (James), Tim (Kristy), Ann (Chad), Jon (Holly), Joe (Mary), Andrea (Jon), Jeff (Megan), Angela (Dale), and Darin (Bri). Carl has 17 great grandchildren: Katharine, Corbin, Luke, Jacob, Bailey, Elizabeth, Evan, Elliott, Eli, Emarie, Wyatt, Olive, Colin, Carlie, Emmy, Brooks, and Palmer; and a brother, Bill Culp.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; John, Everett, and Carlos and two sisters; Virginia and Miriam and one son-in-law, Bob.
Deke grew up in the Belle Center area and moved to Rushsylvania where he graduated in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was wounded in France, from which he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a longtime member of the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church and worked in the Ford business for 30 years. He was also a private pilot, enjoyed old Ford cars and tractors.
Per Carl’s wishes, the family will have private services at a later date with burial in Rushsylvania Cemetery with military honors.
