Calvary Christian’s soccer team is returning to the Ohio Christian School Athletic Association state final four for the fifth consecutive year.
The Spartans held off New Hope Christian 2-0 Tuesday at Calvary Fields to claim the regional championship. The Spartans travel to Ohio Christian University in Circleville on Friday, Nov. 1, to play First Baptist Elyria in the state semifinals.
Calvary jumped on top of New Hope Christian in the first half with two goals. Gabe Salmonowicz scored first off an assist from Isaac Reinhard for a 1-0 lead. Salmonowicz scored again for the Spartans on an assist from Garrett Reinhard to give Calvary a 2-0 lead.
The Spartasn defense stepped up in the second half to keep New Hope Christian off the scoreboard. Josh Harmison recorded the shutout in goal.
