Early release with special conditions from a 36-month prison term was not good enough for Steven Burk, who will now have to serve out the remaining 20 months.
In spite of the Logan County Common Pleas Court’s decision to grant him early release March 30, the 68-year-old convicted drug dealer chose “not to abide by the restrictions place on him,” Assistant Logan County Prosecutor Dan Huston said at Monday’s sentencing, and allowed guests into his 812 W. Sandusky residence without prior approval of the local Adult Parole Authority.
Three women — Shawna Powell, 31, Amber Barker, 29, and Kristen Fulkerson, 29, all at large — with criminal backgrounds were at his residence and they, too, were arrested for new violations and warrants.
As he sat in his wheelchair Monday before Logan County Common Pleas Court Assigned Judge Mark S. O’Connor, the convict said he didn’t understand all of the restrictions.
Judge O’Connor dismissed his excuse and agreed with the prosecutor that the defendant was given verbal and written instructions regarding the visitor prohibitions.
“While the court acknowledges the prohibitions were a non-standard request of the parole authority, the prohibitions protect the public,” the judge said. “It was a restriction that had a purpose unique to you.
“There were four cases before this court in which you persisted in dealing in stolen goods and drugs. The restriction was reasonable considering your past actions.”
