Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 2:28 a.m. this morning to the Quincy Handy Mart, 105 Carlisle St., Quincy, on a report of an alarm.
When they arrived several minutes later, deputies observed the glass to the front door to the business had been shattered and a sledgehammer was found on a window ledge by the door. They also noticed there were lighters on the ground in the parking lot.
Inside the store, deputies observed the area behind the checkout counter where cigarettes are stored had been ransacked. The business owner responded and said it appeared that several packs and cartons of cigarettes were missing, along with lighters and possibly flavored cigars.
Outside the business, deputies also noticed two sets of foot tracks in the snow, heading toward South Street and stopping in front of the car wash, where it appeared a vehice had been parked. Further investigation is pending.
