WASHINGTON — Bellefontaine Police Chief Brandon Standley is part of a 19-state delegation in Washington this week to oppose legislation to increase the size and weight limits for tractor-trailers, including longer double-trailer trucks that are 91 feet long.
Standley, who currently serves as the president of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, says he and the association strongly oppose any increases to truck size or weight. He will meet Wednesday with the members of Ohio’s federal delegation, including U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman.
“There’s no doubt that bigger trucks are going to mean bigger problems on the road,” he said Standley. “In all my years of experience, I can say for certain that if this legislation is approved, we are going to be seeing heavier trucks that are harder to stop and longer trucks that make it more difficult for drivers to control.
