Lakeview area resident and U.S. Marine Corps Korean War veteran Dean Arras stands outside his residence Thursday afternoon to enjoy a surprise parade of vehicles driven by his friends, neighbors, community members and area law enforcement in celebration of his 90th birthday, which he marked March 26. Because of concerns with COVID-19, he was not able to have an in-person celebration, but his family friend and caretaker, Amanda Arnett, and her husband, Bill, helped to organize the parade to “brighten his day and put a smile on his face,” Mrs. Arnett said. Local businesses also donated gift cards and wrote personal messages for the now 90-year-old. Mr. Arras’ daughter, Lori Mihaly, reported from Colorado that she was appreciative of the local effort to bring happiness to her father. “He has been so lonesome with the recent restrictions around the virus, so I’m so grateful for Amanda’s work in putting together this parade for him to lift his spirits. It makes our family happy to know he’s being looked after during these times.” (SUBMITTED PHOTO)
