A bicyclist who was seriously injured in a crash the evening of Aug. 27 has succumbed to his injuries, troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
Clifton “Butch” Sower, 58, of West Liberty, was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m. Monday at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, troopers report.
He was flown to the Dayton area hospital by CareFlight helicopter after the bicycle crash about 9:30 p.m. on State Route 287 near State Route 245 in the area of the Piatt Castles, as previously reported.
Troopers report he was operating a westbound bicycle when he lost control and struck the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said. No motor vehicles were involved in the crash.
Troopers said in the crash report, there was a turtle in the road.
Macochee EMS and West Liberty Fire Department responded to the scene.
This is the 10th fatal crash in Logan County this year.
