FCCLA adviser also requests trip approval
The Bellefontaine High School marching band is looking this fall to continue a tradition that has been in place since 1994 of performing at the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia every four years.
Monday evening, Bellefontaine Board of Education members were presented with a trip proposal from BHS marching band director Jeremy Karg for the musical group to visit both Philadelphia and New York City from Nov. 20-24.
The board will vote on approval of the trip at the next regular meeting, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25.
Karg presented a sample itinerary for the trip from Noteworthy Tours, which begins with motorcoaches leaving the high school the evening of Nov. 20 and traveling overnight to Philadelphia. Then Nov. 21 is spent touring various sites in the historical city, including the National Constitution Center.
Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, the parade begins at 8:15 a.m. Following the group’s performance that morning, the pupils will partake of a Thanksgiving meal later in the afternoon enroute to New York City, where they will have the chance to attend a performance at Radio City Music Hall. Students will shop on Black Friday, tour various sites in the city and also to attend a Broadway show Friday evening.
Karg said the approximate cost of the trip is $850 per student, with various fundraisers planned.
