Betty Lou Toomey, 73, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at her residence. She was born March 13, 1934, in Lewistown to the late Michael and Ida Mae Benchoff Ball.
She married Richard Toomey in Russells Point on April 26, 1964, and he survives, along with two sons, Scott (Kendra) Toomey of Piqua and Brian (Brittney Adams) Toomey of Taylor Mill, Ky.; four brothers, Joe Ball of Dayton, Robert (Sylvia) Ball of Purvis, Miss., Franklin (Bonnie) Ball of Marysville and David Ball of Kenton; three sisters, Alice Dye of Tucson, Ariz., Nancy (William) Webber of Rockville Md., and Mary Ann (Dan) Addington of Fairborn; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ryan Toomey of Surprise Ariz., Kalee, Tyler, Trevor and Trenton, all of Piqua Ohio, and twin boys due in January; one great-granddaughter, Raelyn; one great- grandson due in December; a brother in-law, Jack (Marta) Toomey of Jackson Center; 30 nieces and nephews; and several great- nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; two nephews; and two half-sisters.
She graduated from Indian Lake High School in 1961 and attended Edison State Community College and JVS. As a youth, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and had her licenses for radio communication. She also raised Bichon Frise puppies which were her pride and joy. She loved cake decorating and ceramics. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, cooking, and being with family and friends.
She was employed at Piqua Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid, worked at Wood Shovel and Tool Co., Atlas Allen-A, Associated Truck Lines, Hartzell Propeller and retired after 27 years from Crane Pumps Co.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and also attended Upper Valley Community Church.
Funeral Services are at noon Saturday, Oct. 15, at Upper Valley Community Church, 1400 Seidel Parkway, Piqua, where visitation begins at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Pastor Mark Coulter officiates and burial follows in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua.
