Betty James, 87, of Mt. Victory, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Forest, to the late Harry and Lulu Inman Peart.
On Oct. 28, 1946, she married C. Eugene James and he preceded her in death March 4, 2013. She also was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin James; and two grandsons, Ben and George.
Survivors include daughters, Rebecca J. (Charles) Schnitzler of Marion, Brenda (Charles) Phipps and Susan (Michael) Smith, both of Mt. Victory, Letitia (Larry) Webb of West Mansfield and Nancy (Jamey) Lobdell of West Liberty; two sons, Daniel (Deb) James of Ridgeway and Robert D. James of Kenton; two sisters, Mary Bell Schlatter and Ruth Shirk, both of Kenton; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
A 1946 graduate of Forest High School, Betty was a member of the Mt. Victory United Methodist Church, the Kenton Moose, and because she liked to fish so much, she joined the Indian Summer Sportsman’s Club.
Betty worked various jobs. She worked for the Council of Aging for six years, drove school bus for Ridgemont Schools for 21 years and helped her husband in their family business. Betty enjoyed gambling, playing cards, board games and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed cooking big dinners for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. until a funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home, Mt. Victory, with Pastor Jason Manns officiating. Burial follows at Hale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hardin County Humane Society.
