Akiko Kubo Gilbert, 89, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Logan Acres Retirement Community.
She was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Fukuako, Kyushu, Japan, a daughter of the late Yosaku and Hatsu Kubo.
On July 16, 1953, she married Glenn Robert Gilbert in Tokyo, Japan, and he preceded her in death Dec. 15, 2005. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Kikue Kubo; and brothers, Kiyoshi Kubo and Tokiyo Kubo.
Survivors include a niece, Ellen (Richard) Patrick of Rushsylvania; and several nieces and nephews in Japan.
Akiko was a homemaker and a member of the New Salem Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Dr. David Moreland officiates a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the New Salem Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial is in the New Salem Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Salem Lutheran Church, 6646 State Route 540, Bellefontaine OH 43311.
