Bellefontaine Elementary School pupils and their parents dove into phonemic awareness, syllable division and technology together Thursday evening during stations set up at the school’s Family Reading Night.
Parents and students also enjoyed paired reading together during the evening session.
First-grade teachers explained various reading strategies to parents. The goal is for each first-grader to become a proficient reader.
“Kindergartners and first-graders learn to read,” BES Principal Pat Martz explained. “Students in second grade and up read to learn.”
Approximately 50 students attended the event, where they earned prizes in the library after completing three stations and also received a free book to take home.
Bellefontaine Elementary School has hosted Family Reading Night for more than 20 years.
