Bernie L. Sutterfield, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at The OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Reynolds County, Mo., a son of the late Oather and Gertrude Shults Sutterfield. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel, Hazel, Maxine, Freda and Norma; and brothers, Ralph, Edward and Lyndle.
On June 11, 1989, in Belle Center, he married the former Kristine “Kris” Quay and she survives in Bellefontaine, along with daughters, Debra (Graham) Davis of St. Louis, Mo., Donna (Dale) Batson of Rhineland, Mo., and Tina Beth (Brian) Sutterfield of St. Louis; a son, Bernie (Rita) Sutterfield Jr. of Springfield, Mo.; stepdaughters, Teresa (Christopher) Thode of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Michelle (Chris) Suman of Bellefontaine; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was an over-the-road truck driver, retiring from Cassens Transport. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine and graduated from West Fork High School in Missouri. Bernie enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, and he loved people and singing.
Pastor Jeffory Willetts officiates a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Bellefontaine. Burial is in the West Fork Sutterfield Cemetery, Missouri, in the spring.
