Benjamin Logan school board members placed Superintendent Dave Harmon on paid administrative leave Monday during a regular school board meeting.
The board announced its decision just before concluding the meeting, following an executive session.
Board president Tod Johnson said afterwards that, “Mr. Harmon has some decisions he needs to make regarding the future of his career at Benjamin Logan.”
Reached by telephone after the meeting, Harmon expressed surprise at the decision, and said he did not see the action coming.
A staff meeting Harmon had scheduled for this morning is canceled, board members said.
Johnson said the board had talked with Harmon about elements of his job performance for at least three months. He also said that board members were in total agreement with the decision to place Harmon on administrative leave.
Harmon should not have been surprised by the decision, the board president said.
“The ball is in Mr. Harmon’s court, and he has some decisions to make about his future,” Johnson said.
An interim has not yet been named, but school board members said they have an individual in mind.
Harmon has been the superintendent at Ben Logan since 2015. He was given a five-year contract in 2017.
