Benjamin Franklin Storer, M.D., 97, of Lima, died at 6:04 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Lima Memorial Health Systems Hospice.
He was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Cleveland to the late Claude and Lucille Payne Storer. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Roberta Kyar, who died Aug. 11, 2016.
He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lima. He graduated from Cleveland East Tech High School in 1935, Ohio State University in 1939 and Marquette School of Medicine in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1950. He retired as prison psychiatrist from Allen Correctional Institution in 1990. He enjoyed playing bridge, flying his Cessna 150, gardening, building homes and entertaining family and friends at his home.
He is survived by five children, Andrew (Elvia), of Baker City, Ore.; Stanley, Gerald (Laura) and Ben Jr., all of Lima, and Judy of DesMoines, Iowa.
He has eight grandchildren, Andy (Connie), Matthew (Sarah), Sarah and Charity, all of Portland, Ore., Mary (Heath) Kornblum of San Francisco, Calif., Holly of Chicago, Ill., and Angela (Pat) Dove and Stephen (Tiffeny), both of Lima; and nine great-grandchildren, Andrew, Wendy, Alex, Katy, Chloe, Kimberly, Nicholas, Jason and Zaiden.
He also was preceded in death by his sister, Muriel Storer Bates.
A service begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Riverside Cemetery Chapel or St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland, with the Rev. Daniel Budd officiating. Burial is at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland.
Calling is at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, until time of services at Riverside Cemetery Chapel or St. John’s Episcopal Church, Cleveland.
