District considering March 26 as tentative calamity day
Benjamin Logan Board of Education members were updated at their Monday evening meeting on the status of COVID-19 vaccinations for staff members.
Superintendent John Scheu said staff members who wanted to receive the vaccine received their first dose March 4 and 5.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Mary Rutan Hospital and the Logan County Health District for arranging the distribution of this vaccine to our Benjamin Logan employees. We are very fortunate to have this protection,” he said.
“Chad Ross and the staff at Mary Rutan Hospital and Health Commissioner Dr. Boyd Hoddinott and his team at the LCHD have been vital in making this happen.
“We are blessed to have the support of such compassionate and dedicated people helping the Logan County communities stay informed and healthy.”
The staff members’ second dose is scheduled for March 25 and 26. Related to those vaccinations, Scheu said the district has tentatively scheduled a calamity day for Friday, March 26, and will inform district families once it is finalized.
“I can’t make an All-Call until I know approximately five days before March 26 if the vaccine has been received. Parents will be notified immediately once the decision is confirmed,” he said.
Also during the meeting, President Deb Johnson shared that the board hopes to make a decision by the end of the week regarding selection of new board member. Former Board President Tod Johnson recently submitted his resignation related to the sale of his home and his upcoming move out of the school district.
The board also met in a special session Tuesday evening to interview board member candidates.
Members approved the purchase of 450 Acer Chromebooks at $228 a piece from Xtek Partners, for a total of $102,600, to be paid through Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds received from the state.
