Sunny skies, warm temperatures and a grateful couple greeted Benjamin Logan High School FFA students Wednesday who offered to supply the labor needed to install a number of wildflowers and other plants in a field that is specially designated as Conservation Reserve Program land with the Logan Soil & Water Conservation District.

With shovels in hand and work boots on their feet, the 16 students set out to plant seven flats of plants provided by the Logan SWCD on the 81⁄2 acres of land owned by Bob and Judy Gattis along Township Road 51 at County Road 5.
While Mrs. Gattis said she and her husband would install two additional flats of plants in easier-to-access areas of the field habitat, the students’ willingness to pitch in made this conservation effort much easier to accomplish.
“This is a huge help to us,” the Rushsylvania area resident said. “We’re older and it’s harder for us to get out here anymore, and none of our children live in the area to help us with this project.
“The students are helping out the wildlife and seniors with this effort; we’re very appreciative.”
