Benjamin Logan will have new head coaches in both baseball and softball next spring.
John Stahl recently stepped down from the softball program after five years as head coach, while Jim Fawcett did the same in the baseball program. His coaching span also lasted five seasons.
“I just felt like this was a good time to get out of coaching,” said Stahl. “I have done it for 20 years and I feel like there are some other things that need my time. I have been doing a lot of umpiring and I would like to continue to do that. I also want to spend more time with my grandkids. Coaching takes up a lot of time and I have some other areas that I want to concentrate more time on.”
Stahl, who also spent 15 years as an assistant coach for the Raiders, went 94-36 as the team’s head coach. The Raiders won one league championship and finished as the league runner-up three times.
“I really enjoyed working with the girls and my assistant coaches,” said Stahl. “I appreciate all of the time and hard work they dedicated to the program. I also want to thank my wife Megan for being supportive of me while I was coaching.”
In his first season in 2012, Stahl led the Raiders to a 24-6 record, a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division title, a sectional crown and a spot in the Division II district championship game.
“That (2012 season) was a lot of fun,” said Stahl. “The 20-win seasons were nice, too, but the biggest thing for me was being able to help the girls have success off the field. As a coach, you always want to see your players go on to be successful in life.”
Fawcett also felt like he needed more time to devote to family.
“My wife and I had twins, and I really need to be there for them,” said Fawcett. “This is a big change for us at home and I feel like it is my duty as a father to devote any extra time I have to my family.
