Benjamin Logan Elementary School has been awarded a $13,000 Martha Holden Jennings Foundation grant to support its “Balanced Literacy Framework.”
Benjamin Logan Curriculum Director Sally Stolly and BLES Principal Colleen Bodin collaborated on the grant and have been planning professional development for the 2017-18 school year focused on the development of teachers in the balanced literacy framework, which includes teaching comprehension through interactive read-aloud, mini lessons, guided reading and literature discussion.
The grant funds will be used to build and grow an extensive list of leveled paperbacks to fit the reading levels and interests of every student in grades K-4.
