No matter who wins next week’s election for Benjamin Logan School District, discussion of a new tax issue likely will be the first thing on their agenda.
Treasurer Mandy France updated the board on the district’s five-year forecast during the Monday night rescheduled meeting and said a trifecta of lower agricultural property tax collections, the loss of tangible personal property tax and increased teacher salaries will leave the district with a deficit of between $2 million to $7 million by the end of 2022.
“That triangle of not having enough revenue is really starting to show its head and by the end of the fifth year it will be fully evident,” the treasurer told the board. “Rural local economies are feeling the brunt of the cuts the most.”
