Bellefontaine’s girls and boys swim teams both won a small invitational Friday at the Champaign County YMCA.
The Chieftain girls dominated a five-team meet with 145 points, Urbana was second with 52 points, Graham took third with 20 points, London was fourth with 16 points and Mechanicsburg took fifth with 10 points.
Bellefontaine’s boys won a six-team meet with 89 points, Graham came in second with 46.5 points, M’burg was third with 38.5 points, Urbana came in fourth with 33 points,
London was fifth with 14 points and North Union rounded out the teams in sixth with six points.
“Every one of our girls saw success during the meet either in scoring or personal best time,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “We are very proud of these girls for pushing themselves and seizing every opportunity.”
Earning individual wins for the BHS girls were Morgan Henry in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Sarah Starkey in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Ashton Carey in the 200 individual medley, Sarah Fulmer in the 100 backstroke and Joslyn Robinson in the 500 freestyle.
First-place relays included the medley relay of Henry, Robinson, Abby Kite and Samantha Starkey, the 200 freestyle relay of Sarah Starkey, Sarah Fulmer, Kite and Henry and the 400 freestyle relay of Sarah Fulmer, Samantha Starkey, Robinson and Sarah Starkey.
Placing second were Gabby Stolly in the 200 freestyle, Sarah Fulmer in the 100 butterfly and Abby Kite in the 100 freestyle.
Adding a third-place finish was the 200 freestyle relay of Alyvia Steggeman, Carey, Zoey Rister and Ella Costin, the 400 freestyle relay of Stolly, Carey, Vivian Eader and Olivia Ullom and Ullom in the 100 breaststroke.
“Every boy saw success at this meet either through scoring or improving their own time,” said Lewis. “I was very impressed with the performance from the team and I’m excited to see their continued improvement moving forward.”
Winning relays for the BHS boys were the 200 medley relay of Blake McDonald, Aidan Mifsud, Lucas Harrington and Elijah Merrin, the 200 freestyle relay of John Fulmer, McDonald, Mifsud and Harrington and the 400 free style relay of David Moody, Merrin, Fulmer and Cooper Harman.
Individuals placing second were Harrington in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and McDonald in the 200 freestyle.
Coming in third were McDonald in the 100 backstroke, Merrin in the 200 freestyle and Mifsud in the 100 freestyle.
Bellefontaine swims again Saturday in the Logan County meet at the Hilliker Y.
