Citing the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic, representatives from Family Video announced Wednesday that the company will close its remaining 250 stores nationwide, including the location in downtown Bellefontaine.
The local store, 143 N. Main St., has started its liquidation sales — selling movies, video games, CBD products, store fixtures and more at closeout prices. Each location will officially close their doors once all of their inventory is sold.
“We are very thankful to have been able to provide entertainment for many family movie nights, and want to thank the people of Bellefontaine and our incredible staff for the many years of support and service,” said Keith Hoogland, CEO, Highland Ventures LTD.
Family Video has served the Bellefontaine and Logan County community with their entertainment needs since 2002.
District Manager Scott Jaynes said while the business has met recent challenges relating to the increase in digital entertainment choices, the health crisis during the past year has proved a heavy burden.
“While we have faced digital competition from Netflix and others for years, nothing has been as devastating to our business as COVID-19.”
While the brick and mortar stores are closing, the company officials said the www.familyvideo.com website continues to offer movies, games, CBD products and other merchandise available for purchase.
The 143 N Main St. location is available for lease or purchase. Contact Jaynes at scott.jaynes for more information.
