Substitute daily pay increase enacted
Bellefontaine Schools Board of Education members approved the district’s financial forecast, which predicts five years in the black, and also acted upon a measure that will increase substitute pay beginning next school year.
The daily substitute rate will increase from $85 to $100 for Bellefontaine City Schools. Superintendent Brad Hall said there has not been a rate increase in the county since 2004, and other county schools also are considering this increase in pay, with a goal of attracting additional qualified individuals.
“Substitute teachers are a valuable part of every instructional day, and we are always looking to add quality substitute teachers to the list,” Mr. Hall said.
A local substitute teacher training also will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 10 at Bellefontaine High School by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center. Individuals who have a bachelor’s degree of any kind can become a substitute teacher, or individuals with a high school diploma can be a substitute classroom assistant.
To sign up for the training, call Susan Shields at 599-5195 ext. 5504 or e-mail [email protected].
Related to the five-year forecast, Treasurer Keith Krieger said the final years of this budget are difficult to predict because information about the district’s state funding remains unknown. The next biennial budget information will not be released until June 2017.
For that reason, the treasurer said Bellefontaine City School’s state funding numbers have been flatlined during the final years of the forecast.
“The biennial budget will have a big effect on our forecast.”
