Development of village website under consideration
With the restoration of the train depot on track for completion this year, Belle Center’s mayor and village council are turning their attention to the streetscape that surrounds the historic centerpiece of the town.
“I would like to see something that says this is our village and we are proud of it,” Mayor Teresa Johnston said after the Tuesday evening regular council meeting.
The depot, which was once a bustling platform for travelers arriving in the railroad town and residents departing for day trips into the city or longer excursions out of town, sits along a former piece of railroad property that has recently been paved and named Keller Avenue.
The street itself is not much more than a stretch of blacktop that Councilwoman Dione Campbell complained is being used haphazardly by motor vehicles. She suggested center lines or parking spaces be painted on the asphalt, but some council members believe a few more months’ wait may provide a better overall vision for the entire street.
