Exhibition Table division makes debut
Bailey Beach, Doris Hager and Sharon Kennedy took best-of-show honors during Monday’s flower show in the open class divisions of ornamental foliage, exhibition tables and containers, respectively, at the Logan County Fair.
Hager’s watermelon picnic-themed entry beat out a handful of entires in exhibition table division, which is a new addition to this year’s show. Hager said she’s done backgrounds for quite a while and noted, “it’s a challenge, it takes a lot of work and a lot of thought to coordinate everything together.”
Kennedy believes the tall grassy plume of the Prince Tut and “lot’s of water” helped her container entry secure a win. Bailey, who’s hosta entry won, said she had challenges with everything blooming too early because of hot weather. Her growing tips were pay attention to your flowers, water often and know when to cut.
Reserve grand champion winners were Sharon Payne, containers; Cindy Beach, exhibition table; and Sue Clem, ornamental foliage. Junior class winner was Jace Thompson.
Chloe Borgerings was tapped as junior reserve grand champion. Some of the winners relayed their appreciation for this year’s show being housed in the Grange Building, which has air conditioning and better lighting.
A second round of flower show judging begins at 1 p.m. Friday in the Grange Building.
