The youth baking contest took place at the Logan County Fair on Wednesday morning.
MARLEE YOUNG, LUX KIPKER
Grand champion in the cakes division was awarded to Marlee Young of West Liberty, who used a recipe for a chocolate layer cake that was created by her greatgrandmother and passed down through her family for generations.
Lux Kipker of Quincy took home reserve champion for her white layer cake.
The candy division was dominated by Zanesfield’s Allison Armentrout, who won both grand and reserve champions for her buckeyes and chocolate fudge.

Allison was assisted in making her candies by her mother.
Lux Kipker took home her second ribbon of the day with her sugar cookies, earning grand champion in the youth cookies division. Shania Fruchey of Russells Point won a reserve champion ribbon.
In adult action, the grand champion ribbon in the single crust division went to Lauryn Elliot of West Mansfield for her pecan pie, which has a small amount of whiskey as a secret ingredient.

Kathy Huey of West Mansfield won reserve champion in this category for her maple syrup pie.
Double crust pies resulted in a grand champion ribbon for Barbara Gonterman of anesfield’s mixed berry pie. Bellefontaine’s Kristin Strebig was awarded reserve champion for her apple pie.

In the cream pie category, Coleen Hoge from Bellefontaine earned a grand champion ribbon for her chocolate creation. A reserve champion ribbon was taken home by Karla Johnson of Bellefontaine who entered a lime cream pie.
