Franklin Brandyberry, 53, of Russells Point, was charged with burglary and assault after being dispatched about 10:37 p.m. Thursday to Point Place Apartments, 600 Lincoln Blvd., Russells Point, following a 911 call, officers of the Russells Point Police Department report.
James Castle, 50, of Russells Point, said he was attacked outside his apartment by the suspect, who then fled in a white sedan, which officers located Brandyberry operating on Lincoln Boulevard near U.S. Route 33. He briefly tried to evade officers before pulling over in the parking lot of the Village Pantry, corner of U.S. Route 33 and State Route 708.
Officers observed signs of impairment and noted Mr. Brandyberry was clearly intoxicated. He would not cooperate with questioning about the incident and was subsequently detained. Mr. Brandyberry, who had burst through the victim’s door and entered the apartment without permission, was placed under arrest for burglary and assault and was lodged at the Logan County Jail. The incident remains under investigation.

Driver arrested for OVI
Wendy Mechling, 44, of Russells Point, was stopped near Willow Isle on Orchard Island Road about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, after officers noticed the vehicle committed several marked lanes violations. They detected an odor of alcohol coming from her and observed other signs of impairment. She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She was transported to the Logan County Jail where she submitted to a breath test, providing a result of 0.135.
