The Third District Court of Appeals recently upheld two decisions originating from Logan County Common Pleas Court.
Lucas G. Jones, who was convicted by a jury in September 2016 of two counts of forgery for presenting bogus payroll checks to Winners Northside Market, argued that the court improperly allowed evidence about his criminal activities in other Ohio counties and different states.
The appeals court found no grounds to overturn the local decision and the jury conviction stands.
Edward Marland, who was sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with the Oct. 18, 2015, traffic death of motorcyclist James Long Jr., argued that the results of a blood alcohol test should not have been allowed as evidence in his case.
Marland asked the local court to suppress the blood test, but that motion was denied. He then entered a no contest plea and was sentenced to prison.
The appeals court agreed with the decision to admit the result of the test as evidence in the case and returned the case to Logan County Common Pleas Court for further sentencing.
The parties have 45 days to appeal the decision.
