DIXON |
An Adult Parole Authority officer has been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash early Tuesday morning in Bellefontaine.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report William “Damon” Dixon, 40, of Bellefontaine, was operating a southbound pickup about 3:40 a.m. on north Main Street when his vehicle struck the rear of a southbound sport utility vehicle operated by Carrie A. Warmoth, 43, of Bellefontaine, that was stopped at the traffic light at Columbus Avenue. The impact sent the SUV from north Main Street to west Columbus Avenue.
Damage was heavy to the Dixon vehicle and moderate to the Warmoth vehicle.
On the scene of the crash, officers observed that Dixon displayed signs of intoxication. He admitted to consuming approximately three beers early that morning and he refused to take field sobriety tests.
While taking inventory of Dixon’s vehicle, officers located a half-gallon “growler” of alcoholic beverage. The defendant told officers the growler was from several weeks ago.
Dixon was placed under arrest for OVI and he was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he refused to take a breath test. He also was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and was released to a family member.
