Aiko Kudo Weaver, 87, of Springfield, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 10, 2016, at Villa of Springfield.
She was born in Hirosaki, Japan, on Jan. 22, 1929, to the late Tamio and Chiya Kudo. Aiko was also preceded in death by six siblings.
She married Carl C. Weaver on Jan. 14, 1957, in Tokyo, Japan, and he survives in Springfield. She is also survived by her children, Penelope (William) Gibson and Lincoln (Melissa) Weaver, both of Springfield, and Jason Weaver of Texarkana, Texas; six grandchildren, India (CJ) Mendoza, Cassia Gibson, Trevor Gibson, Kiana (Kendall McCulloch) Weaver, Zennie Laneese (Jamal) McNeill and Vernon Michael Ladd; six great-grandchildren, Nina, Michael, Nasiim and Malcolm McKay, Kai Weaver McCulloch and Sadie McNeill; a sister, Ritzuko Sagara, and a brother, Shozo Kudo, both of Japan; several nieces and nephews, including Fred Hatcher and Dru Hatcher, both of Ohio.
Aiko was a homemaker and a typist/translator for the U.S. Air Force. She enjoyed drawing, bowling, sewing, knitting and singing. Aiko volunteered at the schools for her children’s activities and also helped with the Springfield Peace camp. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren in Springfield where she previously taught Sunday School classes.
A memorial service begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Private family burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
