A.M. Hempy, 87, of Rushsylvania, passed away Saturday, Feb.10, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Rushsylvania on April 9, 1930, to the late Myron Grabiel “Bud” and Mabel King Hempy.
On Feb. 20, 1954, he married the former Connie Brugler, and she survives, along with their five children, Bob (Randy Sue) Hempy of Greenwood, S.C., Bill (Sharon) Hempy of North Lewisburg, Beth (Doug) Meyers of Apopka, Fla., Brenda (Tim) Forrest of Milford and Barry (Jessie) Hempy of Rushsylvania; 14 grandchildren, Tori Hempy, Courtney (David) Hughes, Arik (Anne Marie) Hempy, Shelby (Paul) Smith, Stacy (Shane) Everhart, Chelsea (Bob) Morris, Brad Hempy, Amber (Tony) DiSalvatore, Aaron (Mandi) Meyers, Ashley (Daniel) Miranda, Logan Forrest, Lucas Forrest, Landon Forrest and Mitchell Hempy; 11 great-grandchildren, Claire, William and Margaret Hempy, Myah and Colton Everhart, Aubree and Kaylee Morris, A.J. and Ava DiSalvatore and Reagan and Roslynn Meyers; a brother, Richard Lee (Joy) Hempy of Hixson, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Allie Schrader of Belle Center; and many nieces and nephews.
His sister, Betty Jean Schrader, also preceded him in death. A 1948 graduate of Rushsylvania High School, A.M. was a lifetime member of the Rushsylvania Presbyterian Church. A.M. worked hard all his life. He was a farmer, worked at Rockwell in Bellefontaine for 17 years, was a financial advisor for IDS Financial and served as a Rushcreek Township Trustee for 28 years. A.M. owned race horses and enjoyed harness racing, traveling, and most especially, spending time with his family.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb.14, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where Pastor Scott Miller officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, following calling that begins at 10 a.m. Burial follows in Rushsylvania Cemetery in Rushsylvania.
