A walking program first initiated by the Bellefontaine Parks and Recreation Distict has expanded out into the county, the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District learned at their Tuesday evening meeting.
The parks district along with Mary Rutan Hospital and other Healthy Habits, Healthy You coalition partners began a winter walking program earlier this year at the Bellefontaine Elementary School to give people a heated location to get their daily steps.
The program was so successful that the coalition is partnering with Indian Lake School District to serve residents around the lake, Parks Superintendent Kris Myers told the board.
“It’s cool to see an expansion of this program and (Indian Lake Schools) taking it on as an outreach to their community,” Myers said.
