Members of a new animal rescue group that sprang up in the wake of the closure of the Top of Ohio Pet Shelter said Thursday they have begun to build momentum, but they are not ready to pursue the county’s contract for handling stray dogs.
The comments came at a meeting between three members of the Logan County Animal Haven rescue and the Logan County Commissioners.
“At this point, no one is trying to come in here and ask for the contract because we don’t even have a facility,” Chris DeWitt, a member of the rescue group said.
After the June closure of the local shelter, the commissioners awarded a $75,000 annual contract to the Union County Humane Society to accept Logan County’s stray dogs and they have said the arrangement is working well.
