CARROLL |
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by two other agencies during a four-hour standoff Sunday evening that ended peacefully with the suspect’s arrest at his rural East Liberty home.
Burl K. Carroll, 48, of 10094 County Road 29, East Liberty, was charged with a felony count of having weapons under disability and a misdemeanor count of domestic violence and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Dispatchers at the sheriff’s office received a call about 8 p.m. from the sister of Mr. Carroll’s wife, Lynda, 40, who said Mr. Carroll had stuck a gun in his mouth and had threatened that if law enforcement was called, he would harm himself and his family.
Deputies initially were tied up on another domestic dispute in the Indian Lake area, so the Ohio State Highway Patrol sent three troopers to the home. They made contact with Mrs. Carroll and three children at the door, and helped them leave the home.
Law enforcement was informed that Mr. Carroll was a military combat veteran, and that there were numerous weapons inside the home. Deputies and the Bellefontaine Police Department’s Special Response team also arrived at the home, and attempted to contact the defendant by phone. He would not answer his cell phone.
