Sgt. Kevin L. Terrill, 26, of Fort Polk, La., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. He was born June 21, 1990, the son of Steven L. and Debra A. Swavel Terrill. Kevin was married to Emily Parlett and she survives.
Kevin is survived by many loving family members and friends including his parents, Steve and Debbie Terrill of Indian Lake; sister, Whitney (Jason) Bell of Kenton; nephew, Austin Bell of Kenton; niece, Peyton Bell of Kenton; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Carolyn and Harold Brown of Kenton; aunts and uncles, Diana (Dennis) Copp, Dennis (Julie) Swavel, Darlene Bates, Dean (Teresa) Swavel and Danette (Rex) Hommel, all of Kenton, Penny (Theodore) Berlin of Urbana, Nancy Terrill of Ridgeway and Barbara (Steven) Guider of West Mansfield; his godson, Hunter Marcus Fontenot of Louisiana; many cousins; and Kent Struble of Kenton. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Swavel; paternal grandparents, Robert Hugh Sr. and Helen U. Terrill; and uncle, Robert H. Terrill Jr.
He grew up in Cary, N.C., where he was currently a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and graduated from Greenhope High School.
While in high school, he was an outstanding tennis player, earning all conference and academic all conference awards. After graduation, he attended North Carolina State University, where he was member of the wakeboard team. He was an avid NC State Wolfpack fan.
Kevin represented his county with pride currently serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Polk, La., where he was specializing in satellite communications working in the Signal Corps. Prior to his time at Fort Polk, he completed basic training in Fort Benning, Ga., then trained at Fort Gordon, Ga. His service time abroad sent him to Germany, where he served on several operations in Poland and the Czech Republic. His military career allowed him the opportunity to have many, many military brothers and sisters, not only in the United States but also worldwide.
An outdoorsman at heart, Kevin had a passion for riding his four-wheeler and hunting with friends. He loved time spent on Indian Lake boating and jet skiing. He was very proud of his customized Ford diesel truck and Ford Mustang. No matter the activity of choice at the time, Kevin always liked to go “fast.”
The family of Sgt. Kevin L. Terrill invite all to attend the public funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at St. John’s Evangelical Church, 211 E. Carrol St., Kenton, with the Rev. Scott Johnson, Pastor Jim Ellington and retired Chaplain Maj. Gen. John B. Ellington Jr., USAF, officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the United States Army Honor Guard.
All visitation will be held privately by the family.
