A roar of cheering and applause erupted throughout Bellefontaine Intermediate School Thursday afternoon after a special announcement was made over the school’s PA system.
Students and staff alike were thrilled to hear the news that the school this week has been named a Lighthouse School by the Franklin Covey Co., which is a culmination of four years of diligent work implementing the Leader in Me program and grant and making the 7 Habits of Happy Kids an integral part of the school culture.
“It’s been a goal of ours since the day that we got the grant,” BIS Co-Principal Krista Adelsberger said Thursday. “The excitement of the students today just shows that it wasn’t just the teachers who were a part of this, it involves the whole school and each and every student. The kids were pumped today when they heard we’d made it.”
Mrs. Adelsberger and Co-Principal Lynda Holycross were informed of the distinction Wednesday by the Steven Covey Co and their Leader in Me coach. As a Lighthouse School, they are now among a select group of 217 schools that have achieved this honor worldwide.
“We’re thrilled to recognize Bellefontaine Intermediate School as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School,” Sean Covey, Franklin Covey Education Practice Leader said in a release. “Schools that achieve the Lighthouse Milestone are great examples of a strong leadership model, process and of what it means to be a Leader in Me school.
“This school has experienced transformational results by implementing the principles and practices related to the Leader in Me. We are so pleased to celebrate the success they are experiencing.”
