Bellefontaine Intermediate School fifth-grader Gabe Foreman, left, plays Mary Had a Little Lamb on the fiddle with the help of visiting musician, storyteller and poet Ken Waldman of Alaska Thursday as part of a three-day LoCo Art residency at the school this week. While visiting Logan County, Mr. Waldman also has created two acrostic poems (one shown below) that spell out “Bellefontaine” and “Bellefontaine Intermediate School,” which he sent home with students. Mr. Waldman performs a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Holland Theatre, where admission is free for children ages 12 and under and $10 for adults. The former college professor has served as visiting writer at more than 80 colleges and universitiesand has performed at venues from Kennedy Center Millennium Stage to Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage; www.kenwaldman.com. The “From Logan County to the Northern Lights” old-time variety show also features several other musical acts, including Rick Good and Sharon Leahy from Rhythm in Shoes, and The Hedgehog Stringband led by Bob Lucas.
