Blake Peterson and Trenton Fulkerson competed against each other as Logan County rivals in high school. Now, the two standout pitchers are teammates on the Ohio Northern University baseball team, and they are making quite the impact.
Peterson, a Benjamin Logan graduate, and Fulkerson, an Indian Lake product, combined for a no-hitter in the Polar Bears’ 8-0 win over Mount St. Joseph on Sunday in Auburdale, Fla.
Peterson, a junior, allowed just two base runners while working 5 2/3 hitless innings. He struck out 11 of the 19 batters he faced.
Fulkerson, a sophomore, came on in relief of Peterson in the bottom of the sixth inning and retired all four batters he faced to finish off the no-hitter.
Peterson has appeared in two games so far this season and has not allowed an earned run in 9 2/2 innings. He has recorded 16 strikeouts.
Sunday’s game was the first appearance of the season for Fulkerson.
The Polar Bears are currently 4-4 on the season.
