Marjorie J. Cushwa, 92, formerly of Belle Center, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, in Trinity Community Health Care Center, Beavercreek.
She was born in Bluffton on Nov. 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Raymond and Reba Mae Ewing Henry.
On March 28, 1942, she married Lowell E. Cushwa and he preceded her in death April 24, 1982. She also was preceded in death by her son, James M. Cushwa; two brothers, Carl and Edison Henry; and a sister, Carol Howell.
She is survived by her children, David E. Cushwa of Russells Point, Paul L. (Diane) Cushwa of Xenia, Mary Jane Newman-Cushwa of Bandon, Ore., Lynn P. Cushwa of Georgetown, Texas, and Dale R. (Jerry Engel) Cushwa of Centerville; grandchildren, Dawn Peterson, Deanna Dolezal, Scott Newman, Lisa Klinger, Shannon Cushwa-Fuerst, Roger Cushwa, Michelle Cushwa, Jim Cushwa, Sadie Cushwa, Noah Cushwa and Keri Echols; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Henry; and three sisters, Mary Lou Thomas, Betty Collum and Phyllis Hempy.
A 1941 graduate of Belle Center High School and a homemaker, Marjorie loved her gardening, knitting, her grandchildren and bowling. She was inducted into the Bellefontaine USBC Bowling Hall of Fame in 1992. She traveled extensively with various bowling teams and won many awards during her 50-plus years of bowling. Bowling is what kept her going.
She had a pen pal in England named Betty (Jim) Purdy, with whom she regularly communicated since the seventh grade. The Purdys have been to visit Belle Center and she had visited them in England.
Pastor Jay McMillen of Shiloh United Church of Christ officiates the funeral at noon Thursday, April 7, in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami Valley or the charities of the donors’ choices.
