OUPS details state law regarding commercial, home excavation projects
Ohioans have long been reminded to have underground utility lines marked prior to commencing any outdoor projects requiring a shovel in the ground, and now that strong suggestion has been written into state law.
Effective Jan. 1, Ohio Senate Bill 378 requires all commercial excavators, utility operators, designers, developers or anyone else who intends to undertake an excavation project to first contact the Ohio Utilities Protection Service.
The requirement is designed to eliminate the number of natural gas, or other utility lines that could be punctured during an outdoor excavation project.
