For Logan County senior citizens, getting from Point A to Point B is as easy as calling “TLC.”
Herdien Ritch of Bellefontaine boards a Transportation for Logan County bus driven by TLC’s Steve Hall. TLC is a public transportation option for all Logan County residents, and those age 60 or older can ride for free with the help of an allocation from the United Way of Logan County. Transportation for Logan County is one of four new United Way of Logan County funded agencies this year. The offshoot of RTC Industries will be receiving $23,000 in donor dollars to provide free rides for local individuals age 60 and older to complete a variety of tasks, from attending doctors’ appointments or shopping.
For local residents like Herdien Ritch, the service is invaluable.
“If I stayed home all the time, it would drive me crazy,” she said. “At home, you are all by yourself. I tell you, it has made an impact on my health and has prolonged my life.”
The Bellefontaine widow does not own a car and never learned to drive. Her son lives 90 minutes away. So she uses TLC four or five times a week so she can exercise at the Y, go shopping, or make medical appointments, including rides to Lima for the eye doctor.
“I only use TLC for important trips,” Ms. Ritch said. “If I’m going to a party or out to eat dinner, my friend picks me up.”
