The Indian Lake Board of Education wrapped up business for 2021 and bid farewell to a longtime board member in a short December monthly meeting.
Kim Boswell is retiring after 20 years of service on the board. She was sworn into office on Jan. 9, 2002. Boswell has helped guide three Indian Lake superintendents, build a new elementary building and much more in her tenure.
“We’ve seen a lot of changes and really a lot of great things over the years…It’s a time I’ll treasure,” she said.
“She’s definitely going to be missed and we certainly appreciate the time and effort she has given to Indian Lake Schools,” added Superintendent Rob Underwood.
Boswell received a special plaque commemorating her service and board members hosted a small reception at the conclusion of the meeting.
Also during the meeting, members approved a five-year, 253-day contract renewal for IL District Treasurer Coleen Reprogle, effective Aug. 1, 2022. Members issued the treasurer the same 2.5 percent raise as the rest of the staff for the 2021-22 school year.
In other action, the board:
• approved the 2022-23 Indian Lake High School Course Description;
• accepted the ARP Homeless Round II grant in the amount of $9,243.47,
• accepted the Ohio Attorney General’s FY22 School Safety Grant in the amount of $7,604.01,
• adopted a resolution to oppose the establishment of the Backpack Scholarship Program as proposed in House Bill 290 of the 134th General Assembly; and
• approved the annual renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association Membership and Subscription Fees of $5,798.
The Indian Lake Board of Education will gather for an organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, to set the schedule for 2022. Gabe Wickline will serve as president pro-tempore for that meeting.
At that time, newly elected board member Shannon Reese will be sworn in to take Boswell’s seat.
