Hayden C. Deitsch, 18, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead following a crash about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a westbound 2009 Honda Civic on U.S. Route 33 and stated he was distracted by the headlights of another non-contact vehicle behind him. Deitsch’s car then struck the rear of a westbound vehicle, unknown make and model, operated by Kevin B. Yoder, 28, of Sugarcreek, that had stopped to turn onto County Road 270.
Deitsch said he applied his brakes, but could not stop before striking the Yoder vehicle. The Civic then went off the left side of the road and came to a rest in the grass.
The two drivers and Yoder’s passenger all were wearing their seat belts.
