PILKINGTON |
Brittany Pilkington will not face trial until Oct. 18 as attorneys need time to address dozens of defense motions and then prepare for a lengthy trial.
Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor set the four-week trial start date during a hearing Wednesday.
The 23-year-old woman has been charged with suffocating her three sons over a 13-month period.
Authorities say she admitted smothering the boys as they slept starting with infant Niall in July 2014 followed by Gavin, 4, on April 6 and infant Noah on Aug. 18.
If convicted of aggravated murder, she could be sentenced to death.
She remains in the Logan County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Hearing on the motions are set for July 19 through 22.
Her husband, Joseph Pilkington, 44, has been charged with sexual battery for impregnating her as a teenager prior to their marriage.
He is awaiting trial and has appealed the case, claiming too much time elapsed before charges were brought forth.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the case because of a conflict of interest with Logan County Prosecutor William T. Goslee’s office.
Mr. Goslee represented the suspect in a custody issue through his private practice prior to becoming prosecutor.
