Tyler Howard, 25, of Cairo, Ohio, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident early Sunday morning involving a golf cart.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in the area o f 12526 N. State Route 235, Lakeview, about 1:15 a.m. observed a golf cart traveling on S.R. 235 and when deputies approached the golf cart, the operator reportedly turned into a parking lot.
Deputies stopped to speak with the golf cart occupants. The golf cart operator, Howard, told deputies that he and his passenger were on their way to Froggy’s at the Lake to check on a friend.
While speaking with Howard, deputies observed signs of impairment and he told them he had consumed two alcoholic beverages. He submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. At the Logan County Jail, he also submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.104 blood alcohol content. He also was cited for operating a low-speed vehicle on a highway and was released to a sober party.
• Anthony G. Smith, 29, of Findlay, was charged with OVI related to a traffic stop about 9 p.m. Saturday in the area of Winner’s Market, 13840 N. S.R. 235, Lakeview.
Deputies on patrol in the area observed a speed violation with his vehicle and also noticed that a front headlight was not working, and initiated the stop.
During the stop, deputies said Smith exited the vehicle and was asked to stand near the back of his vehicle. Deputies observed an odor of alcohol coming from his person, and he told them that he had consumed four beers, mentioning that he was staying one mile down the road and offering to “walk home.”
He submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where he submitted to a breath tests, with two results of 0.253 blood alcohol content. The defendant was cited for speed and driving under suspension. Deputies said he had previous OVI convictions in 2016 and 2011. He was released to a sober party.
Passenger transported from C.R. 130 crash
Jeannette R. Taylor, 19, of West Liberty, was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.
Deputies report she was a passenger in a northbound 2001 Dodge Caravan operated by Annette J. Cotterman, 72, of Russells Point, on County Road 32 about 3:50 p.m. that had stopped at a stop sign at County Road 130.
The Cotterman vehicle proceeded into the intersection and failed to yield to a southeastbound 2017 Chevrolet Cruze operated by Brad A. Plaugher, 24, of Lima, on C.R. 130. The car struck the left front side of the minivan.
No other injuries were reported. Cotterman was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign. Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. All occupants were wearing their seat belts.
• Wesley D. Kidder, 22, of West Liberty, was cited for parking on the roadway related to a non-injury crash involving his pickup that was hauling two hay wagons.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound Ford F-250 pulling the two wagons on County Road 9 about 10 p.m. and pulled into a driveway at 4133 C.R. 9. Deputies said the second hay wagon was still partially on the road and was struck by a southbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Bradley E. Rader, 57, of Bellefontaine.
Damage was heavy to the Rader vehicle, which was towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Pair issued summons for criminal trespass
Wyatt C. Prince, 22, of 408 W. Center St., West Mansfield, and Faith E. Hoyt, 19, of Forest, each were issued a summons for criminal trespass related to an incident Sunday at the pond located at Rushsylvania Church of Christ.
Deputies responded about 7:40 p.m. on a report of a man and woman swimming in the pond that belongs to the church. Deputies said surrounding the pond area, there are “no trespassing”and “pond are closed” signs posted.
Deputies said both Prince and Hoyt were swimming in the pond upon their arrival. The pair exited the pond when asked by deputies. Prince told deputies he had seen the signs, but thought they were posted because of COVID-19 precautions and had not been taken down. They each were issued a summons.
