Bellefontaine’s boys track and field team more than held its own at the Division I track and field district meet. The Chieftains finished sixth in a very strong field.
Wayne won with 150.5 points, Northmont took second with 120.5, Springfield finished third with 101, Troy took fourth with 59, Tippecanoe had 55 and the Chiefs tallied 48 points.
Bellefontaine was highlighted by senior Micah Fogan on Friday during the final day of the meet. Fogan finished second in the shot put with a personal best of 51-1 1/2 to advance to the regional meet. The top four finishers in each event earn regional spots.
“Fogan’s second-place PR was gutsy having to overcome two beginning four fouls and then rushing off to graduation,” said Bellefontaine head coach Ben Davis. “We are taking nine athletes to the Division I regional meet. The experience will be valuable.”
Finishing fourth and advancing for the Chiefs on Friday was the 800 relay team of Kailyn Organ, Max Varner, Evan Baker and Harper Scott (1:34.12).
Tony Stewart finished fifth in the 3,200 with a PR of 10.30.74 and the 1,600 relay team of Organ, Connor Skidmore, Varner and Scott finished sixth (3:38.2).
Contributing seventh-place finishes for the Chiefs were Gavin Wilson in the 1,600 (4:48.24), the 400 relay team of Organ, Ethan Yoder, Baker and Scott (PR of 44.67) and Varner in the 400 (42.95), while Skidmore added an eight-place finish in the 800 (2:06.6).
