1 percent utility increase approved
West Mansfield officials assured a property owner whose basement has been filling with storm water that improvements to the aging drainage system are high on the town’s priority list.
“The storm sewer is not young — 50 to 60 years old at least,” Village Administrator David Evans said at the Monday evening council meeting.
His comments came in response to Donovan and Lisa Austin, who own a Center Street home at the west edge of the village that is occupied by their son. Mr. Austin said the basement and grounds flood regularly during storms and asked what could be done to correct the problem.
Mr. Evans said there has been preliminary discussion of two different plans — one that would divert water out of the village and another that would create a retention pond — but said both options would be costly.
“We are going to do something with the storm sewer, we just don’t know what the next step is at this time,” he said
