Employees of Chow Hound Pet Supplies, 2236 S. Main St., reported Wednesday an in-store surveillance video recorded a white male stealing four Guinea pigs on Tuesday.
The suspect took the pets from a gage and stashed them in the front pocket of his hooded sweatshirt before purchasing another item and leaving the store.
Man faces intoxication charge
Michell T. Jones, 28, of Plain City, was charged Wednesday with public intoxication.
Officers responding to a 10:40 p.m. trespassing complaint found Jones outside an apartment at 400 N. Main St. They report it was apparent he was intoxicated and unable to care for himself or reach anyone who was take responsibility for him.
He was lodged in jail.
Motorists cited in crashes
Petra C. Jones, 23, of Bellefontaine, was issued a traffic citation for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead after a 4:40 p.m. Tuesday crash in the 800 block of east Sandusky Avenue.
She was eastbound in a car and failed to stop for a slowing cargo van operated by James W. Bettinger, 58, of Zanesfield. Both motorists were checked at the scene for possible injuries by members with a Bellefontaine squad but neither were transported, officers report.
The Jones car sustained functional damage while there was no damage to the van.
• Gerald E. Rogan, 60, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to control after a 1:30 p.m. crash Tuesday on Park Street near Columbus Avenue.
He told officers he was southbound in his pickup truck and lost control when he began to cough. His pickup hit a parked sport utility vehicle registered to Helena A. Berton of Bellefontaine.
Both vehicles sustained functional damage.
• Aaron E. Holycross, 68, of Bellefontaine, was cited for a stop sign violation after a 3:10 p.m. Wednesday crash at Lake Avenue and Detroit Street.
He was westbound on Lake and proceeded into the intersection. His pickup hit the side of a northbound sport utility vehicle operated by Karl J. Smith, 50, of West Liberty, who legally entered the intersection prior to Holycross.
Damage was light.
