Nicholas C. Emerich, 34, of 401 N. West St., Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, aggravated menacing and telecommunications harassment related to an incident early Sunday morning.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about 1 a.m. from Emerich’s girlfriend, who stated that he had called her more than 100 times and was threatening to harm her. She said she was driving between Urbana and Bellefontaine and he was making statements that he was trying to locate her and run his car into hers.
An officer of the West Liberty Police Department located Emerich’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at Marie’s Candies, 311 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Deputies also responded to the scene.
While speaking with the defendant, deputies reportedly observed a heavy odor of alcohol on his breath and other signs of intoxication. He said he had consumed between two and three alcoholic beverages that evening.
Deputies also located an open can of beer in the driver’s side door.
Emerich declined to participate in field sobriety tests and was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he participated in a breath test, with a result of 0.152 blood alcohol content.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail on the aggravated menacing and telecommunications harassment charges.
Son charged in incident involving mace
Drake M. Dodd, 24, of 3978 Township Road 180, Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Tuesday during which he allegedly sprayed his father in the face with mace.
Deputies responded to his residence about 6 p.m. and met with his father, Michael “Mike” Dodd, who was treating himself for the mace.
Michael told deputies he had been cooking meat on the stove and that his son had picked up the pan with the meat and threw it at him, causing grease to splatter. He said an argument continued and his son then sprayed him in the face with the mace.
The defendant left the residence, but later returned and spoke with deputies. He said his father had thrown a stool at him prior to him throwing the pan of meat and said the mace was an accident. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
Woman issued summons for theft
Tammy L. Kopus, 36, 215 E. Miami St., DeGraff, was issued a summons for theft related to an incident at her workplace.
Deputies were dispatched Feb. 11 to the Village Pantry, 319 Cretcher St., DeGraff, to speak with the manager regarding a theft by an employee. The manager had been informed that there was a shortage in the previous day’s receipts, and upon further review of video surveillance, Kopus was observed taking a pre-paid credit card from a display rack. The manager said the cash register was then used to facilitate the theft.
Kopus later returned to the store to repay the money. Upon speaking with deputies, she admitted responsibility for the theft and was issued the summons.
